Starting on Thursday 17th of July, there will be Women’s football session throughout the summer. The sessions will be held every Thursday at Haggerston Park Astro. During thesessions music will be played too, what more can you ask for right?
This week we had our annual awards night at the Village Hall in Hoxton Square. It was an evening to recognise the players, supporters and partners that we have as a club and to acknowledge all of the season’s success.
This summer Better have launched ‘For the Girls’ a new programme designed to inspire females into sports. Working in partnership with Sports England and Sparta the programme will feature day-time and evening sport sessions, run exclusively by girls for girls, including: Netball, Boxing, Volleyball, Tennis, Badminton. Street Dance, Football, Basketball and Swimming.
Please join us for Hackney Laces end of the season awards night. In addition to the classic awards of player of the season and most improved, we have some big announcements and plenty of entertainment. Our hosts this year will be Shoreditch Works Village Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 and the ceremony will begin at 7:00. Family and friends are very welcome. Hope to see you there!
2013-2014 marked Hackney Laces debut into leagues. Our youngers (U16s) played in the capital girls league and our olders (16+) played in the Greater London Women’s League. Our youngers played in a friendly league so we were learning the ropes and the rules.
This weekend saw the second part of our filming with SKY Gamechangers. The first segment featured the team at training. This next part features one of our Laces, Vanessa, on match day. Vanessa had the pleasure of hosting Olympic Sprinter Jeanette Kwakye at her home for a pre-match chat. You can watch the full video here.
Thank you Jeanette, Hannah and the crew for giving us the spotlight.
When Hackney Laces met Casey Stoney at a WSFF conference, we never thought that she would offer to take one of our training sessions. But she did. And last night we had the pleasure of hosting her.
This week a squad of 36 laces strong embarked on a journey to innocent drinks. As part of our ‘off the pitch’ programme, we wanted to hear an interesting and ambitious woman talk about her career. So we asked Felicity Yardy, innocent’s product development manager and she very kindly invited us to Fruit Towers (or the innocent factory as the girls called it).
Just an average training session for us at Hackney Laces and next thing you know, Russell Brand is walking through Haggerston Park. And he knows one of our girls, Emma, from Hackney City Farm. It was all very exciting and you can only imagine how many selfies with Russell were taken.
We’re very lucky to have been introduced to the people at SKY who decided to do a little feature on us. Over the course of two rather freezing nights, a film crew came along and documented our training sessions. And this is the result!
Thanks Stu for the intro. We had so much fun filming.
