Career Workshop With LogMeIn

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

At the end of March we joined forces with Visit.org to host a virtual CV and job interview workshop. We had the pleasure of meeting over 40 employees from the tech company LogMeIn who were based all around the world, an opportunity we never thought would have been possible pre-pandemic. Hackney Laces player and project manager Wiktoria writes below about the experience.

Through Hackney Laces’ off the pitch programme, I recently participated in a workshop via Zoom on CV’s and job interviews with LogMeIn employees. During the workshop I had the chance to speak to leadings professionals and tell them about my current goals and aims. I got a lot of valuable advice on selling myself to potential employers, how to expand on my skills and how to be taken seriously as a young person.

The prime focus for me was to improve my CV and have more of a professional presence. I was advised to create a LinkedIn profile and got plenty of tips on how to make my CV stand out. During the call, one of the mentors very kindly offered to take a look at my CV following my concerns. Although it may not have been a big deal to him, for me it definitely was; having the global Chief Information Security Officer of LogMeIn annotate my CV with clear guidance has helped me rewrite my whole CV and I’m sure it has contributed to me actually getting the first job I applied to (with no previous experience as a receptionist whatsoever!). Not only did he take time out of his day to do me a huge favour, I was also touched by the investment and encouragement I received from him and the other mentors. We have remained in touch and I have even been mentioned in posts by the Global Lead of Change Management at LogMeIn, which has helped me gain more recognition and professional presence. As well as career advice, I have also been given tips on saving since starting my new job and have been sent articles relating to the concerns I expressed during our conversation. It has been a great opportunity for networking and gaining connections that I would not have been able to access on my own.
